Sonja O’Hara
Sonja O’Hara is an Emmy-nominated queer writer, director and actor who was selected as a “Filmmaker To Watch” by Independent Magazine. Past recipients include Moonlight’s Barry Jenkins. O’Hara’s debut feature Root Letter (TUBI) stars Danny Ramirez and received the ReFrame Award. She is set to direct Harvey Keitel, and Rita Moreno in her upcoming psychological thriller, Theirs, which was announced at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. O’Hara created the Webby-winning Shudder limited series Doomsday, which was described by Indiewire as, “Part Midsommar, part Yellowjackets, promising salvation in the sexiest and scariest way possible.” O’Hara has projects in development at Anonymous Content, Zero Gravity, and The Exchange. This summer O'Hara will direct Cottagecore (based on her Black List recommended script) produced by Peter Phokcof A24’s X, Pearl, and Maxxxine. The project was one of ten narrative features selected for the prestigious Film Independent Lab announced in Deadline here. Other notable directors who have participated in the program include Sean Baker (Anora), and Chloé Zhao (Nomadland). She is a Film Independent Fellow, and serves as a filmmaking mentor at SXSW. She is represented by VERVE Talent & Literary Agency and Gotham Group.
